The internal structure of the thallus consists of many mucilaginous cavities containing the colonies of anabaena and Nostoc. The asexual reproduction occurs by tubers, gemmae, by progressive death and decay of the thallus. The sexual reproduction takes place by specialized antheridia and oogonia.
