In this Video, Ms. Jyoti Kumari in Biyani Group of Colleges explain about the general structure of DNA. DNA is made up of long polynucleotide chains. A nucleotide has three components i.e. A nitrogen base, A pentose sugar, A phosphate group. Nitrogenous base is linked to the pentose sugar through N-glycosidic linkage to form nucleoside but when phosphate group is linked to this nucleoside through phosphodiester linkage a nucleotide is formed and when many nucleotides are linked, then a polynucleotide chain is formed. Base pairing confers a very unique property to the polynucleotide chain.
